The purpose of the Duolingo English Test is to assess English language proficiency for academic and immigration purposes. It is accepted by over 4,000 universities worldwide, including many in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and Europe. The test is fully online and can be taken from the comfort of your home.
Eligibility for Pakistani Students
- No specific academic qualification required.
- Must have a valid CNIC or passport for identity verification.
- Must have access to:
- A computer with a front-facing camera, A stable internet connection & a quiet well room.
- Purpose: Evaluates your ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written English.
Test Format
- Duration: ~1 hour (45 minutes test + 10 minutes video interview).
- Sections Include: (Reading, Writing, Listening, & Speaking)
- Adaptive Testing: Difficulty adjusts based on your answers.
- Video Interview & Writing Sample: Sent to institutions (not graded but reviewed).
Scoring
- Overall Score: 10–160 scale.
- Skill Subscores:
- Literacy (Reading + Writing)
- Comprehension (Listening + Reading)
- Conversation (Speaking + Listening)
- Production (Writing + Speaking)
- Minimum Score Requirements Vary by University:
- Example: 105+ for top universities, 90–100 for many standard programs.
Registration & Test Process:
- Create Account
- Download and install the Duolingo English Test desktop app.
- Take a practice test (optional but recommended).
- Pay the fee and take the test.
- Receive results within 48 hours.
Test Rules:
- No other person in the room.
- No headphones or external devices.
- No writing tools (pen/paper) allowed.
- No switching browser or using phone.
- Validity & Retakes: The validity of this test is 2 years, and you can retake the test up to 2 times within 30days
